Cirque du Castor Explained

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

A few rogue OBs changed the theme for the 2012 Beaver Queen Pageant.  Who really knows the mind of an OB?  <pause to think of an answer>  It appears Grayson Baur, aka Bullseye Beaver does.

Everyone knows that Castor is the genus portion of the taxonomic name “Castor canadensis,” the North American Beaver (Beavers are Splendid!).
“Cirque du” refers to a circus, perhaps even pays homage to “Cirque du Soleil,” a traveling Canadian troupe of performers. Do you detect a subversive Canadian theme here? I do! It doesn’t hurt that folks often refer to the troupe as “Cirque du So Gay”, either, I suppose, but what do I know.
Also, castoreum is a substance secreted from the nether parts of beavers. I’ll let you make of that what you will.
